Meross has released two new products for the North American market, both of which are HomeKit compatible, namely a new outdoor smart plug with three outlets, and a new dimmer switch that also includes a separate remote control, much like the Lutron Pico remote.
First reported by Christopher Close at iMore, the new products, as always are very competitively priced, at just US$35.00 for the outdoor plug (nee power strip…), and US$36.00 for the dimmer/remote combo, although at present Meross are offering $10.00 OFF the smart plug right now, when you select the discount coupon, and 25% OFF the dimmer/remote pack, when using the same method. Both use 2.4GHz WiFi, much like the rest of their lineup, and will work with HomeKit, in addition to Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
The triple outdoor plug is rated IP44, which prevents larger objects from getting into the housing (Most wires, slender screws, large ants etc.), and Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction, such as an oscillating fixture, or spray nozzle for example.
The dimmer and remote bundle comprises a wired smart dimmer switch, that requires a neutral wire, and a separate remote, that also includes a standard faceplate, so that you can mount the remote much like a standard wireless switch. Whilst the wired switch uses WiFi, it’s likely the remote, which requires a coin battery, which probably wouldn’t last long if the remote is WiFi, so we’re guessing it pairs with the main switch using another method.
