Nuki Keypad With Fingerprint Reader Leaked Ahead of Launch

Nuki, the Austria-based smart security company known for their Nuki Smart Locks, has been preparing to launch a new product, with emails being sent out to users ahead of the official ‘reveal’. However, it seems the ‘cat’s out of the bag’ unfortunately, with German website appgefahren.de reporting on a TikTok video from user @brightnl showing an unboxing of the company’s forthcoming product – the Nuki Keypad 2.0.

It would appear from a cursory search, that the video is not currently available, but the screenshots above, courtesy of appgefahren, show us exactly what to expect from Nuki’s November 8th launch (6pm CET).

As the images show, the updated keypad features a brand-new, larger design, with rounded buttons, instead of the original square ones, whilst also retaining the 6 LED ‘dots’ at the top. The biggest visual update, of course, is the addition of the fingerprint sensor, which it’s claimed is pretty much as fast as the reaction times found on smartphones with similar sensors.

What is not so clear is whether the separate keypad will come with Apple HomeKey functionality. Whilst it’s entirely possible to include such a feature in principle, it’s less clear whether Apple allows such a feature to be included in devices beyond the respective lock. If this is the case, it would seem unlikely that we’ll see HomeKey – even via their current lock, unless the company surprises everyone with an announcement to that effect.

The current keypad uses Bluetooth 4.2, which is a bit ancient these days, so at a minimum, we’re expecting the new model uses Bluetooth 5.0. You can check out our video review of the Nuki Lock 2,0 which also includes a look at the company’s WiFi bridge, Keyfob, Keypad, and battery pack for the lock.
