Smart home lighting company Sengled has released its first Matter-enabled smart multicolour bulb. Designed to simplify home automation, Matter ensures effortless communication between all your smart devices, systems, and voice assistants, including Apple Home of course. For Amazon’s Alexa users, the company has employed Amazon’s Alexa Connect Kit for Matter SDK.
The new smart bulb is compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks for easy setup. Additionally, it seamlessly integrates with popular smart home ecosystems such as Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and the aforementioned Amazon Alexa and Apple Home, enabling users to control and manage the bulb effortlessly through their preferred platform, or even multiple platforms as required.
Sengled’s new bulb employs RGB LEDs to provide the standard spectrum of 16 million colours, with a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 90. Despite being a 9W / 60W equivalent (up to 800lm), these bulbs can save up to 80% of energy consumption, along with a 2-year warranty (within the US).
Sengled’s range spans a series of protocols, with products using Zigbee (via their own Zigbee hub), WiFi, and even Bluetooth, with Matter being deployed via WiFi at this time, with no mention of an update for their Zigbee hubs, one of which is also HomeKit compatible.
The new Matter-compatible bulb is available on Amazon.com for US$19.99.
