Level, the company that makes smart locks that reside completely on the inside of your door, have now announced their first Level Lock to support both Matter and Thread. The Level Lock+ (Matter) offers Matter over Thread connectivity, as opposed to their other locks that either use Bluetooth, or WiFi via their own WiFi hub.
The good news is that existing Level Lock+ owners are being offered a free firmware upgrade for a limited time, to bring Matter over Thread to their current locks. This update is available via the company’s own app, but will only be accessible until January 14th 2025, so after that, you’d have to purchase the brand Matter model if you want to use Matter over Thread.
In addition to supporting all ecosystems that now support Matter, The Level Lock+ also works with Apple HomeKey, an essential feature for most Apple Home customers, which is something missing from the recently announced Nuki Smart Lock Ultra, also with Matter over Thread.
Currently the company offer two distinct locks, the aforementioned Level Lock+, which comes with the mechanised – or smart – deadbolt, and the inner and outer fittings, that make the whole package look like a regular deadbolt lock. For those that want to keep the outer parts of their traditional lock, the company offer the Level Bolt, which is essentially just the deadbolt portion, designed to work with traditional fittings.
The Level Lock+ is offered in four different finishes – Matte Black, Polished Brass, Satin Chrome, and Satin Nickel. More information can be found on the Level website.
