After initially unveiling three new or updated products back in December, German smart home product manufacturer Eve has now swiftly launched the first of these to the US market. The Eve Energy Outlet is the first smart wall outlet for the North American market to launch with Matter over Thread, adding a well deserved credit for releasing such a product ion the exact date they originally promised.
As it uses Matter over Thread, not only does in not require a propriety hub, it will also work with all the main smart home platforms – Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and of course Apple Home. This is a relatively new area for the company, who prior to updating many of their existing products to Matter over Thread, were solely Apple Home compatible.
The new dual outlet contains two Type B sockets and a matching faceplate, with standard sizing, should you want to use your own faceplates. Additionally, it comes with two LEDs to indicate the power state of each outlet as well as acting as buttons to control power to the individual outlets. Finally, assuming you use the Eve app or SmartThings, you can enjoy the benefits of energy monitoring.
Whilst this product does essentially the same thing as the Eve Energy Smart Plug, aesthetically this should appeal to more people, where a smart plug protruding from a wall socket may seem less sightly. Additionally, at just US$49.95 this does make it more affordable than two individual smart plugs, priced at US$39.95. That said, if your smart plug stops responding for whatever reason, you can unplug it, and boot it up again. When it comes to the Eve Energy Outlet, whilst it would appear that that you can factory reset the outlet, simply rebooting it would require cutting power to it at the circuit breaker, which is going to affect more than just one outlet in most cases.
You can buy the Eve Energy Outlet at Amazon.com today for US$49.95.
