Lighting specialists Govee were until relatively recently, not commonly associated with Apple HomeKit, but that has changed rapidly. After a series of lighting products with Matter compatibility, the company has now released a new Matter over WiFi wall – or Sconce – light.
The new wall light has an impressive set of specs, along with a relatively inexpensive price tag (at least compared to Philips Hue…), at just US$89.99 for a single unit, or US$169.99 for a pair, bringing the unit price down to just US$85. The body of the device is made from a combination of aluminium and plastic, making it suitable for outdoor use, with an IP65 waterproof rating, whilst being able to withstand temperatures ranging from -4°F to 113°F / -20°C-45°C.
The light itself is capable of generating the now standard 16 million colours as well as whites, and in fact offers three colour zones within the one light, which can be animated via the Govee app.
For white lighting, it’s capable of producing white light across the temperature spectrum, from 2700K~6500K, and up to 1500lm at its brightest. As it’s a Matter device, it can’t make use of Apple’s own Adaptive Lighting feature, however, that may not be relevant to an outdoor light in most cases.
As these are outdoor lights, they do need to be connected to a mains powered junction box, with the use of sealants to protect the wires and internals from water ingress. As such, these should be fitted by a professional, or someone qualified to fit such lighting products.
You can purchase the Govee Outdoor Wall from Amazon.com today, or for €75,62 European customers from Amazon.de, or for £89.99 on Amazon.co.uk for UK users.
