As first reported by Yannic over at SmartApfel.de, it would seem that Instar, the German security camera manufacturer has finally added HomeKit support for their IP cameras, via a firmware update. This firmware update allows their indoor and outdoor cameras (we’re not sure if this includes all models…) to be integrated into your HomeKit home via the company’s own web user interface, which, once you’re logged into your account, generates a HomeKit QR code, which then allows the camera to be automatically exposed to HomeKit.
Despite the relatively expensive price tag for all of their cameras, one thing that may interest some users is the fact that their indoor and outdoor cameras offer either WiFi or LAN connectivity. Even more interesting is that they also offer versions for the IN-9008 and IN-9020 with PoE (Power over Ethernet).
The only downside to this HomeKit update is that due to the company having their own paid cloud-based storage plan, none of its cameras is currently compatible with HomeKit Secure Video. In-Star also offers a few accessories, some of which you don’t tend to see on lower priced cameras, like exchangeable lenses, WiFi antennas, floodlights, and more.
In-Star products are available directly from the company’s own website or via the company’s Amazon.de Store.
