Tuo Matter over Thread Contact Sensor Released

Matter may be moving at a slower pace than some would like, but it is moving nonetheless. The latest device to add to the list of Matter-compatible devices is a contact sensor that also happens to use Thread, making it doubly attractive, as it’s compatible with the four main platforms – Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. The device in question is from newcomer Tuo, who recently released their debut smart home product, the Tuo Smart Button, which also uses Matter over Thread.

With (very) few exceptions, contact sensors can only tell you if a door or window is opened or closed, and this would be the case with Tuo’s latest offering. However, the company have gone to some lengths to make its model at least visually different, going for a more elliptical shape, with the two halves split into the sensor and magnet. The sensor half also features a pairing/reset button, which also contains a small LED to indicate it is being triggered as well as its status.

The Tuo offering joins three other Thread contact sensors from Eve, Aqara, and Onvis, with the latter option only offering HomeKit over Thread, not Matter. The contact sensor uses a CR2450 coin battery, which the company claims can last up to two years, depending on usage.

The Tuo Contact sensor is currently available on Amazon.com for US$29.99.
